Garden Gallery is a two-building gallery inside Messe Berlin.
Centrally located is a cylindrical building, Gallery I, which houses a site-specific, light-based installation artwork. The four concave walls of Gallery I are finished with Shiny Universe Stainless Steel, a material specially developed for the high-end refrigerators line. Reflectivity of these surfaces vary greatly from angle to angle and create an ever-changing facade, sometimes reflecting the trees and sunset, sometime staying somewhat calm and matte. It is the first exterior application of this material.
Gallery II, a showroom for a high-end home appliance line, surrounds Gallery I. Gallery II is based on an arc offset from Gallery I that thickens and straightens, adapting to the boundary of the site, to define the garden. Gallery II extends, on one sides to form a long bench that turns into an eight meter-high gate that defines the entrance to the garden, and on the other side to form a outdoor lounge with a roof. The lounge stops 180 degrees opposite the gate to allow view towards the Palais am Funkturm and the historic fountain.
